Jesus P. Estanislao


Jesus P. Estanislao is the current Chairman of the Center for Excellence in Governance. He is the Emeritus holder of the Institute of Corporate Directors Chair; and the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (an advocacy for public governance). Through these two institutes, of which he is the Founding Chairman, he has been a leading figure for governance reforms in the Philippines; through them he has been working with similar institutes in Southeast Asia (he is the Philippine expert in the ASEAN corporate governance scorecard initiative).

He has served in academe, government and the private business sector; he is the Founding President of the University of Asia & the Pacific (UA&P). He has served as Minister of Finance of the Philippines after serving as Minister of Economic Development under President Corazon Aquino.

Jesus P. Estanislao capped his banking career as Chairman and CEO of the Development Bank of the Philippines, after having served as President of Associated Bank and Chairman of the Philippine Commercial and Industrial Bank. He has served as an Independent Director in several corporate boards, the latest having been: Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company, and Philam Life Insurance Company.

His awards include the Philippine Legion of Honor in 1992; the Philippine Management Man of the Year in 2010; the Outstanding Filipino (for governance) in 2012, and the Hernando de Soto award for democracy in 2013.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, and an M.A. in Economics from Fordham University. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of San Carlos in Cebu, the Philippines.
